Google Analytics, 3rd Edition

Recommended ?    Not Deep Enough
"I've only read the 1st edition of this book which came out in 2006, so maybe it isn't fair for me to critique the book, which is in its 3rd edition now. I found the earlier edition to be light on detailed instructions needed to accomplish specific tasks. If you are experienced with Google Analytics, you would definitely want something that goes into a lot more detail, such as Brian Clifton's Advanced Web Metrics With Google Analytics. "

Web Analytics: An Hour a Day
by Avinash Kaushik
Category: Analytics
Rating:
Recommended ?    Wasn't That Good
"I know that this book is one of the most popular in the field of web analytics, but I can't recommend it. The book analyzes web analytics from the viewpoint of a corporation that has substantial resources and personnel that can be dedicated to the issue. If that's what you're looking for, this is the book for you. I, on the other hand, read books from the "An Hour a Day" series so that I can improve my individual skill in some area. The book does not focus much at all on individual improvement in the area of web analytics, but instead focuses on how a corporate web analytics program could be improved. While I can't recommend this book, I totally recommend reading the author Avinash Kaushik's famous web analytics blog called Occam's Razor. Avinash is quite possibly the world's foremost authority on web analytics. If you ever get a chance to hear him speak, you'll really enjoy it. His speeches, podcasts, and webinars are as entertaining as they are informative. But, if you are looking for a book that will provide solid tips to help you improve your own personal web analytics skills, two better choices of books are Brian Clifton's Advanced Web Metrics with Google Analytics and Jason Burby's Actionable Web Analytics."

The Rough Guide to iPods & iTunes (Rough Guide Reference Series)
by Peter Buckley, Duncan Clark
Category: Audio
Rating:
Recommended ?    YES - It's Complete
"This was an incredibly complete book about iPods and iTunes. It's organized in bite-size chapters that are easy to understand. I originally purchased this book because I am considering creating podcasts that could be subscribed to on iTunes. That topic was well-covered. I do not currently own an iPod so this review is entirely focused on the iTunes part of the book. That did not disappoint. In fact, I learned so many new things about iTunes on my computer that I can't name them all here. For example, I was not aware that iTunes has an excellent built-in sound equalizer and many sound presets to make my music library sound a lot more like a real DJ put it together. I now finally have my song library organized so that I know exactly where everything is. These is just a few of the simple but important tips that many experienced iTunes users might not be aware of. This little book thoroughly covers just about every iTunes topic I'd ever heard of, and many that I had not. If you are an iTunes user and wish to master it, this is only book you'll need. It's got everything."
