Social Media Marketing: An Hour a Day
by Dave Evans, Susan Bratton
Category: Social Media
Rating:
Recommended ?    Best SMM Intro Book
"If you are new to social media marketing, you probably won't find a better book to help you immerse yourself in it. The author, Dave Evans, has created a comprehensive, step-by-step guide that is paced just right to allow you to get deeper and deeper into social media marketing quickly but comfortably. What differentiates this book from others that I have read are the hands-on tutorials that Dave has filled the book with. Every chapter in the book comes complete with specific activities that Dave walks you through to allow you to attain familiarity and skill with the topic as quickly as possible. Dave is able to convey a fundamental understanding of social media marketing more clearly and effectively than anywhere else I have seen. Many of Dave's ideas presented in this book, such as the Net Promoter score and quantifying the social feedback cycle, have become widely accepted standard practices among social media marketers. Dave's discussion of how important social media is during the consideration phase of the buying cycle is thorough. To sum it up, this book provides a clear and comprehensive explanation of how customers use socia media when they buy and the author walks the reader through hands-on exercises in all of the most important social media vehicles, such as blogs, video, podcasts, MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, and many others. If you're a veteran at social media marketing, this book will provide you with an even deeper understanding of how your customers are using social media and how you can use that knowledge. New social media marketers will not find a better book to get up and running in the major vehicles of social media marketing."

"There are a lot of books out on how to learn Microsoft's Expression Web. This is the best one. In its more than 700 pages, this book covers every topic you will ever need when learning or using Expression Web 2.0. Loaded with screen shots and clear, step-by-step instructions, Jim Cheshire's book will guide you through building your site with ease. This book took me from relying entirely on FrontPage to being pretty good at site building with Expression Web. I really like Expression Web's support for PHP and Javascript. I have to say that I rate Expression Web as easier to use, more capable, and more versatile than DreamWeaver. This is definitely the best book for mastering Expression Web. It is as complete as it is clear. Thanks Jim for the well-written book."

Tested Advertising Methods (Prentice Hall Business Classics)

"This book was first published in 1932 and still remains a bible of proven advertising techniques. The book is currently in its 5th edition and focuses on print advertising, but the timeless copywriting and copy-testing principles have immediately applications in Internet marketing. Some of the content in this book is so universally applicable that you might that it could be Internet marketing guidelines. A few examples of that would be chapter 11 - Twenty Ways to Increase Selling Power of Copy - and chapter 14 - How To Appeal To a Mass Market Audience. If you write any kind of marketing copy, you'll enjoy this all-time copywriting classic."

The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich

"Everybody's got their own take on this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and Tim's message: "Rearrange your work life so you have more time to do the meaningful things that will help you achieve your life's goals" resonated with me. Tim's book provides a fresh outlook on how to live your life. Having said that, I didn't have complete agreement with Tim on all of the points he makes. Tim espouses creating businesses that run by themselves, enabling the business owner to walk away and party. I don't know that I could even imagine building up a business and then leaving it unattended. Things are changing too rapidly today, especially in the field of marketing. Marketing that works today might be completely ineffective even six months down the road. Business owners simply have to stay on top of things in this rapidly changing environment. Also, I believe that Tim downplays how much work a business owner needs to put in during the early, bootstrapping days of building a new business. Tim's own business was already fully developed and making boatloads of cash before he began his journey to the "4-Hour Work Week" in order to leave the rat race and get his own life back. That's a whole different place than being at the start of a new business and looking up the mountain. Overall, I really liked Tim's whole philosophy of making sure that your professional life does not so engross your life that some of your major life goals cannot be achieved. On the other hand, I have doubts that businesses can be built without a whole lot of effort and then left unattended."

"If you write any type of marketing copy, this is one of the best resources you can buy. Its author, Joe Sugarman, is a legend in field of ad copywriting and this book is his masterpiece. Joe provides a systematic method that he has perfected for generating raw ideas and taking them all the way to polished copy THAT SELLS. Joe also provides numerous examples of his methods in use. One minor caution - Joe Sugarman wrote mainly for print advertising. Writing copy for the web has some definite differences compared with writing for print. Even so, if you write any kind of marketing copy - for the web or print - don't hesitate to buy this book. You will write stronger, more persuasive copy after you've read this outstanding manual."
