Learning ActionScript 3.0: A Beginner's Guide

Recommended ?    Good Teaching Book !
"If you really want to be a Flash rock star, here's the book for you. Most books on Actionscript are NOT for newbies to ActionScript. This one is. You do have to do all of the exercises in the book to master the material, but all of the code for the exercises can be downloaded. Just download the code and run it. The book presents the most useful of ActionScript code. I am able to use a lot of it when I am creating Flash ads that run on Google AdWords. The book is full of fun and useful projects that will allow you to quickly master ActionScript 3.0. As an example, here is a link to just one project I completed. This project teaches how to use ActionScript to install a fully functioning video player in a web page. Here is a link to my end result after I completed the project: http://marksexperiments.com/Flash_Training_Examples/Chapter_12/ Using_an_FLVPlayback_Component_To_Play_a_Video.html There were so many other projects in the book that were quite useful. I'm really glad I bought this book and spent the time doing all of the exercises. It was a lot of fun actually. This is a hugely worthwhile book that will add a powerful tool to your marketing arsenal if you do any work with Flash. I totally recommend it."

LinkedWorking: Generating Success on LinkedIn the Worlds Largest Professional Networking Website
by Frank Agin, Lewis Howes
Category: Social Media
Rating:
Recommended ?    Excellent Book !
"This is a great little read (only about 100 pages) written by THE master LinkedIn Networker, Lewis Howes. The author covers, step-by-step, the hard work he put in to become one of LinkedIn's most prolific and successful networkers. Lewis Howes is a former big-time professional football player and also set the NCAA record for most yards receiving in a single game (418 !). I really liked this book because it's not a get-rich-quick manual but rather details the work that Lewis had to put in to get where he is now on LinkedIn. Lewis provides lots of inside tips on how to get the most out of joining and creating groups and also on how to maximize LinkedIn relationships. I hope Lewis puts out more stuff like this. Good up the good work Lewis! "

Logistic Regression: A Primer (Quantitative Applications in the Social Sciences)
by Dr. Fred C. Pampel
Category: Quantitive
Rating:
Recommended ?    Yes - Understandable
"Good explanation of a complicated topic. I was able to do logistic regression on Excel after reading this little (only 84 pages) manual. One of my blog articles (the blog is about doing advanced marketing statistics in Excel to make better marketing decisions) covers how to use logistic regression in Excel to predict if your prospects will buy and is based upon the techniques in this manual. In case you are interested, here's the URL to that blog article: http://blog.excelmasterseries.com/2010/04/using-logistic-regression-in-excel-to.html This manual does have some rather intense math so if you're not a quant jock, fugget about it. Go right to the blog article instead."

Rating:
Recommended ?    Good for PPC Ads
"Pay-per-click marketers - You get a lot of great copywriting tips from this book. Classified ads are very similar in structure to 3-line Google AdWords ads. I've found this book very applicable when creating ads for the AdWords campaigns I manage. If you're marketing with AdWords, you'll find good, useful stuff in this book."

Management Science: The Art of Modeling with Spreadsheets
by Stephen G. Powell, Kenneth R. Baker
Category: Quantitative
Rating:
Recommended ?    Excel Modelers Bible
"If you do any kind of predictive modeling with Excel, here's your book. Stephen Powell and Kenneth Baker have put together, by far, the most complete and understandable book on how to use Excel to scientifically analyze uncertainty in business decisions. They not only present the theory but also provide clear, step-by-step instructions loaded with with screenshots of Excel in use. The book does a GREAT job at presenting very complicated material in a way that a reasonably proficient Excel user can comprehend without getting a headache. Some of the topics they cover are Monte Carlo simulation, Nonlinear Optimization using Excel's built-in Solver, Networking Models, Linear and Integer Programming in Excel, and combining Optimization with Simulation. No matter how much of a whiz-bang, quant jock in Excel you are, this book will take you to a new level of expertise in using Excel to model uncertainty in order to make better business decisions. I love stuff like this and thought it was fantastic. Propeller Heads, you'll love this book!"
